Monthly Billing

Computation of utility charges is based on the rates and tariffs of the local utility companies.

Water, Sewer, and Gas charges are processed similarly to the electric computations in that we obtain local municipal tariffs and apply them to metered and, in some cases, estimated usages.

Oakland Utilities is well versed in the use of utility rates in many states. The application of these rates varies from state to state and can utilize everything from time of day billing, to on and off peak usage billing. From Michigan to Wisconsin or from the Carolinas to Louisiana, Oakland Utilities has the experience necessary to compute charges using a variety of different applicable rates.

Many states utilize additional surcharges including, but not limited to, fuel charges, transportation charges, purchased power cost factors and nuclear decommissioning surcharges. We keep ourselves informed of all factors that would affect the monthly billing of our customers, ensuring the utmost in accuracy while also optimizing the profitability for the owner.

Water, Sewer, and Gas charges are processed very similarly to the electric computations in that we obtain local municipal rates and tariffs and apply them to metered and estimated usages. In some cases, our clients do not wish to, or cannot derive profit from the billing of Water, Sewer, or Gas usage. In such cases, we use the utility billing for the center and compute an average cost. We then pass on that average cost to the tenants, ensuring that at least the costs are recovered.

In all cases; Electric, Water, Sewer, and Gas rates are billed from our financial system, automatically transferred to our reporting system, and are standardized so that all bills look the same.
